Phone Defense Scripts

What to Say When You Suspect a Scam

Keep these scripts near your phone. Having the exact words ready takes the pressure off and helps you stay in control.

Scenario 1: The "Emergency" Call (AI Voice Cloning)

Caller: "Hi Grandpa, it’s me. I’ve been in a terrible accident and I’m in jail. I need bail money right now, please don’t tell Mom!"

You: "I’m sorry to hear that. To make sure this is you, please tell me our **Family Safe Word**."

Caller: (Hesitates, makes excuses, or gets aggressive) "Grandpa, I don't have time for games! I'm in trouble!"

You: "If you can't provide the word, I am hanging up. I will call you back on your actual phone number."

**Action:** Hang up immediately. Call the relative back on their known number. Never use the number they called from.

Scenario 2: The Government Imposter (IRS / Social Security)

Caller: "This is Special Agent Miller from the Social Security Administration. Your number has been suspended due to illegal activity. You must pay a fee to reactivate it."

You: "I do not discuss my Social Security matters over the phone. Please send me an official notice via the U.S. Mail."

Caller: "If you hang up, we will send the police to your home within the hour!"

You: "I am hanging up now. I will contact the SSA directly through their official website if I have concerns."

**Action:** Government agencies never call to threaten you or demand payment via gift cards/wire transfers.

Scenario 3: Tech Support Pop-Up

Caller: "We detected a virus on your computer. I need you to download a support tool so I can fix it for you."

You: "I don't realize you had access to my computer. Who is my internet provider?"

Caller: (Ignores question) "Your files are being deleted as we speak! Follow my instructions!"

You: "I am shutting down my computer now. My local repair shop will look at it. Goodbye."

**Action:** Shut down the computer. Call a trusted local expert or family member. Never grant remote access.
